Afrodidact

Afrodidact is a Belgian non-profit organization founded in 2006. Its main objective is to provide quality education for all. The Association has developed “an innovative pedagogical method that ensures that all students are equipped with skills that will be useful throughout their entire lives. It has been applied, tested and refined since more than a decade” (Afrodidact, 2021).

According to Afrodidact, theoretical ideas are important, but not sufficient. It is with this vision that the Association decided to build an elementary school in The Gambia: The Swallow. This school allows the development and refinement of the school method.

Highly appreciated by the Gambian Ministry of Education, this school has become a model center for other schools to visit. Today, Afrodidact shares, inspires, and teaches its method to other schools, teachers and organizations.

Afrodidact did not stop there. Based on the idea that every child deserves to acquire digital skills, the Organization decided to launch its KUBO project. This is a server that offers a digital platform to the school. Through it, administration is automated, educational content is offered and information is available. Faculty and students can connect via an offline network and data is securely stored.

According to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the Ministry of Education in The Gambia has paid particular attention over the past 15 years to improving access, equity, quality, relevance and management of education. Thanks to these efforts, we can see several positive points: increase in the number of children and teachers, improvement of school infrastructure and organization of teacher training. “Although the country made considerable progress at the beginning of the decade, the key indicators of the education sector have stagnated over the last five years, and the system faces several problems related to access, equity, learning outcomes and efficiency” (GPE, 2021).

It is in this context that Afrodidact has been trying since 2006 to make its contribution by proposing a pedagogical method that aims at improving the Gambian education sector and, who knows, other countries will follow…
